Broads Canoe Trails
These trails will explore the wildlife havens of
the five Trinity Broads - Ormesby, Rollesby, Lily, Ormesby Little
and Filby - which are peaceful and tranquil because they are
isolated from the main river system. Only electric engines, rowing
boats and sailing boats are permitted, and public launching of
canoes is not allowed.
Because canoeing is silent and low in the water
it is the perfect way to get close to the rare, and sometimes shy
wildlife of the Broads. The Trinity Broads, which are a SSSI (Site
of Special Scientific Interest) and a Broads Special Area of
Conservation(SAC) are home to many species of wildlife including
otters, bitterns and marsh harriers. Tufted duck, shoveller,
gadwall and pochard over winter there. When the water is clear
shoals of fish and stands of thriving water plants can be seen.
